Why Independent Repair Stores Get a Bad Name
If we ever forgot why some people have a bad opinion of independent repair stores, here it is.
This iPhone was brought to us after a previous store had failed to fix it. They’d fitted four LCDs altogether and none had worked- we found out why during our successful attempt to repair it ourselves.
- The red sticker seen in the top picture is supposed to have been removed before fitting- obviously it hadn’t been!
- As can be seen in the other pictures, when they’d removed the LCD connector, they’d also knocked another component from the board. We had to micro-solder a replacement, which was fairly routine for us, but would be beyond many lesser stores’ capabilities. At any rate, we’re quite sure that if the display had still worked, they’d have handed it back with the component still missing.
- While this wasn’t the cause of the problem, we also noticed that a screw on the housing was missing and that filler had been used to “conceal” the hole(!)
We probably don’t need to tell you that the cheapest or fastest repairers don’t always do the best job- or even a good one. We could easily fit poor-quality parts, not bother putting half the screws back and offer a lousy one-week warranty instead of our current ninety day one. However, we feel strongly that all repairs should be done properly, whether it’s on a ยฃ50 or a ยฃ1500 computer. We treat your repairs with the respect they deserve.
