Touch Problems on Cheap “Copy” iPhone Screen

We’ve told you before about the difference between original and “copy” (third party) replacement iPhone screens used by main stores in iPhone repairs.

Does this matter in practice? It certainly does, because we get numerous emails like this…

The problems mentioned are all commonly associated with cheap, low-quality “copy” screens, and we’ll guess that the customer had one of these fitted to her phone without being made aware of the difference. We’ll also guess that they’d have paid a little extra for a far higher-quality original screen if they’d known.

Then again, if the business in question is like many others, they won’t have offered originals in the first place- and will have kept their mouths shut about the difference- because they don’t offer them and make more profit by fitting copy screens at inflated prices. Or perhaps they just lied and told her it was an original screen.

At any rate, we can see that the customer was considering writing off her phone and buying a new one. Even now, they’re still going to have to pay to have another screen fitted (which we’re sure will be better quality since we’ll be fitting it ourselves!)

Visit Disc Depot in St Andrews, and you’ll always get the choice of an original screen where it’s available. (While we do offer copy screens, this is to remain competitive on the headline price and not risk losing customers to less honest stores before they’ve had the chance to find out the difference. Although we almost always recommend the original screen, the final choice is always yours and we’re clear and upfront about it).
