Screen Replacement for Samsung Galaxy S8+

Overview

At Disc Depot in St Andrews we offer fitted replacements for your damaged Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus or Galaxy S8 display. It’s easy for us to fit a genuine, new Samsung AMOLED display- and because it’s from an official service pack, you know the repair will be reliable.

A Typical S8 Plus Screen Repair

Here’s an example of a typical screen replacement on a Galaxy S8+, the larger of the two models in the Samsung Galaxy S8 series.

The original screen had been flickering to the point of being unusable and was clearly damaged. We removed the back using our range of specialised tools, replaced the screen and other components (including the glass and frame) with the new parts from the service pack, and the S8 Plus was as good as new once more.

The back has now been removed and the phone is ready to be repaired.

The new screen has now been fitted, and you can see the old screen and service pack box on the left hand side.

Why We Use Samsung’s Official Service Packs

Complete Units with Frames Mean More Reliable Results

We use Samsung’s official service pack which not only includes the genuine AMOLED replacement display, but also includes various necessary components including the frame. Having this all as one easily-replaced unit increases the reliability of the repair and reduces problems commonly associated with using unofficially-refurbished displays (which generally aren’t that much cheaper). If the frame has to be separately put back, there’s the risk of screen artifacts appearing, including pink lines. (It’s for similar reasons to this that we also don’t offer glass-only repairs for the S8 and S8 Plus. Our glass-only repair article explains why this is in more depth).

Cheap Compatibles? Don’t Hold Your Breath

As of early November 2017, unofficial “copy” replacement displays- those designed and produced entirely independently by third-party companies- haven’t yet appeared for the S8 and S8 Plus. However, we wouldn’t recommend holding your breath- they’re already available for some older Galaxy S models, and we’ve found them to be unreliable with poor display quality. Unlike the originals, they use LCD display panels instead of Samsung’s AMOLED ones giving a less vibrant display. On some, you can’t even alter the brightness.

Similar to copy iPhone screens, we generally don’t recommend them when you can buy a higher quality genuine screen for little more, and we don’t expect copy screens for the S8 and S8 Plus to be particularly good if- and when- they arrive.

Official Parts for the Best Results- Kept in Stock for the Fastest Service

You can see why we consider Samsung’s official Service pack to be the best option. The cost price for us is a little higher than using unofficial refurbs, but it reduces our problems with faulty repairs coming back and keeps our customers happy. We buy them in bulk in order to get the cheapest and most affordable price that we can then pass on to our customers.

This also means we have them in stock most of the time, and we’re likely to have the parts for your Samsung Galaxy S8 repair in stock at our St Andrews store, ready to go. (Subject to the standard repair queue).

What Other Options are Available?

Official Samsung Service

We believe that we provide a reliable service at a decent price, and while it’s also understandable that you might consider going to Samsung themselves for the repair, the one problem is that they replace both the LCD and battery at the same time- since they won’t remove the battery from the housing- and charge accordingly more.

This isn’t really necessary, and we attempt to keep as many high-value parts as possible if they’re in working order anyway. That’s one reason we work out cheaper!

Why Is That Other Shop So Cheap?

We don’t want to tar all other independent repair stores with the same brush- many, like us, are reputable businesses operating in good faith.

Bear in mind, however, that there are companies out there operating in a dubious manner. Due to the high cost of Samsung repair components, there’s a strong grey market for stolen handsets that are then stripped for parts.

The cost of replacement displays (for example) is generally quite similar wherever we buy them, and since you can only push your profit margin down so far, we’d definitely ask questions if one store was significantly cheaper to everyone else.

Thank you for your enquiry. We’re able to repair this and have sent you a price by email. (As prices are constantly changing- generally downwards!- we don’t post them in online replies, as they’re likely to become out of date.)
